Hello everyone and welcome to my new webpage and my new adventure, a Masters at the University of Oxford. I am going to try
to keep posting new photos and a few comments about my experiences here so I hope you will all keep checking back...and send
me some comments! If I hear from you, I will know to continue bashing my way through making this page! Enjoy what I've written
and posted here and, as I said, I look forward to hearing from you all!
What am I doing here?
A question I ask myself almost hourly! What I am supposed to be doing here is an MPhil in Social Anthropology. Confusingly,
an MPhil is a Masters in Philosophy although the degree I am 'reading' has nothing (or hopefully nearly nothing) to do with
Philosophy. Also, no other university (apart from the unmentionable other British school that starts with a C) uses this term.
Sigh. Oxford and that other place like to be different I am discovering! My degree should last two years; the first year filled
with a taught course and the second with a smaller course load but also a 30,000 word thesis...anyone like to proof-read??!
I will attend lectures, work one-on-one with a 'fellow' (professor), and write three 'papers' (exams) this year so wish me
luck!
